When Alisa Tongg reached out about another round of Pop-Up Nuptials, this time for those whose weddings may have been affected by the pandemic, I was thrilled to participate.
For the day of nuptials hosted at Pomme and coordinated by Caitlin Kuchemba from Clover Event Co, I contributed a large handwritten/hand-painted fabric banner featuring a quote from Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy in the majority opinion for the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges decision on June 26, 2015, which established that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples nationwide.
No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than they once were.
I stretched the banner in a large, oversized golden frame by Oleander Curated with florals by Jennifer Designs Events, Camellia Faire Floral, and Shannon Toal Designs. Photo by Alison Conklin
